Dr Michelle Fisher is the Clinical Director for the Clinical Psychology Doctorate Course.  She has worked as Clinical Director since 2012 and prior to this she was a Clinical Tutor since 2004.  She qualified in 2000 from the Birmingham Clinical Psychology Doctorate Course and has a background in working in adult mental health.

  • CBT Diploma from the Oxford Cognitive Training Centre
  • Doctorate in Clinical Psychology

Biography

Dr Fisher worked for 13 years within a Community Mental Health Team and currently works one day a week clinically within the specialist Bipolar service in Birmingham.  Her main role is to be responsible for overseeing the clinical component of peoples’ training over the three years which consists of 50% of their training.  Dr Fisher regularly runs supervisor training workshops with the other clinical tutors and in conjunction with the other two local training courses Staffordshire and Coventry and Warwick. She also has a responsibility for the other generic duties on the Course Team such as marking, being an appraisal tutor and attendance at relevant course committees such the Course Management and Curriculum and Assessment Committee, and facilitating a reflective practice group.  She is actively involved in the group of trainers, a sub group of the British Psychological Society, both locally and nationally.

Main teaching roles are Service user perspective, placement preparation, dealing with distress, Enquiry Based Learning, Models of supervision

Research

Research interests

Working with people with complex needs within adult mental health, in particular women with personality disorder, risk assessment and management and self-harm.
