Mr Geoff Wu is an Intensive Care Physiotherapist at Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham, specialising in major trauma and burns. He is also a Teaching Fellow at University of Birmingham, with specialist interests in respiratory physiotherapy, anatomy and careers in healthcare.

Biography

With a diverse career spanning clinical practice, higher education, and professional leadership, Geoff has developed extensive expertise in physiotherapy, education, and research.

Having taught at several leading UK institutions, including the University of Sheffield, Imperial College London, Birmingham City University, St George's and University of London, Geoff has built a strong foundation in clinical education and a passion for supporting the development of both current and future physiotherapists. This academic experience complements a broad clinical career across a variety of specialist settings in adult and paediatric NHS hospitals, as well as in private healthcare.

Geoff is a Team Lead Physiotherapist in the Intensive Care Unit at Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham, specialising in the management of patients with major trauma and burn injuries. He provides both clinical and operational leadership within a highly complex critical care environment, overseeing a team of physiotherapists while supporting the recovery and rehabilitation of some of the most critically ill and severely injured patients.

In addition to his clinical responsibilities, Geoff is committed to workforce development and professional excellence. A significant aspect of his role involves the education, training, and upskilling of both civilian and military physiotherapists. Through supervision, mentorship, and the delivery of specialist training, he plays a key role in developing clinical expertise, strengthening multidisciplinary partnerships, and maintaining the highest standards of patient care across both civilian and military healthcare settings.

Alongside his clinical leadership responsibilities, Geoff is also a Teaching Fellow at University of Birmingham, where he contributes to both undergraduate and postgraduate physiotherapy programmes. His specialist interests include respiratory physiotherapy, anatomy education, and healthcare careers education, with a particular commitment to inspiring and supporting the next generation of physiotherapists.
