Join us to meet Engineering and Physics Sciences graduates for an insight into the industries they work in and how they started their careers.
Throughout March, the EPS Community is bringing you a series of events with graduates from across our disciplines. In collaboration with our societies, we've invited more than 50 former students to share their experiences and advice with you. There'll be speaker events, speed-networking, roundtable discussions, talks on Women in STEM, time for conversations and plenty of opportunity to ask them about their roles!
You'll be able to meet Site Managers, Feature Owners, Process Engineers, Energy Co-Ordinators, Finance Experts, Development Technologists, Project Managers, and many more from a wide range of industries. Every speaker is different and each one has a unique story to tell!
These events are open to everyone, regardless of what you're studying or what year you're in. Registration is essential and please register using your University email address. Further details, including details of our brilliant speakers, can be found on the individual event links below.

Monday 8 March
Women in STEM; An alumni talk with Sandeep Sandhu

Sandeep Sandhu will share her experience of a career working not only at the Knowledge Transfer Network (KTN) but also at UKRI and the Medical Research Council. During this interactive hour she will reflect on her own path, as well as providing you with tips and hints she has learned along the way.

Choosing to Challenge - Stories from the front line

Here we welcome three inspirational women leaders and University alumnae to talk about their careers. Our speakers Asha Devi, Cath Hannon and Alethea Fuller have all developed successful careers in areas where women are under-represented. In this event introduced by HR Director Gillian McGratten, our speakers will share stories of how they have "Chosen to challenge" and reflect on women's equality in the workplace.
Particularly relevant for EPS, Asha Devi is a structural engineer who has been responsible for the development of some of the iconic buildings and landmarks in Birmingham and around the globe. The projects she has been involved with include Brindleyplace, HSBC tower at Canary Wharf, World Trade Centre, NY and Birmingham Children’s Hospital.

SHE Engineers

Spotlight on Chayn

The Women in Tech Society are putting the spotlight on Chayn, a social enterprise addressing the issue of gender-based violence by creating intersectional, survivor-led online resources. Along with UoB’s PolSoc, they'll be talking to Hera Hussain, the founder of Chayn, to discuss her journey with Chayn so far and the challenges she’s faced.

Mechanical Engineering Alumni Speed-networking

WISE Resilience and Confidence Workshop

International Women's Day celebrates the resilience and achievements of women from all around the globe. A challenged world is an alert world. And from challenge comes change. Ultimately, real change starts with empowering yourself.
Explore strategies that can help build your self-confidence, grow resilient, and manage the dreaded imposter syndrome in this interactive workshop session, brought to you by the Women in Science and Engineering Society.
