Why did you originally apply to do your chosen course at Birmingham?

I chose to apply for the BSc Mathematics course at University of Birmingham because it is a leading, global top 100 university. Birmingham's research standard and global influence are aspects where it excels. Also the beautiful campus and advanced facilities really appeal to me, such as the sports centre, library, teaching and learning buildings.

What do you think are the best points of your course?

The support provided is one of my favourite points of my course. Apart from lecture, you can go to guided study sessions and office hours to seek help from lecturers or teaching assistants. Also, you will be allocated a personal tutor who you meet weekly to discuss all aspects of your study as well as any personal issues affecting you during your time at Birmingham. You can also join a free English improvement course called BIA academic English.

What’s the best thing about studying at the University of Birmingham?

The best thing about studying at the University of Birmingham is the unity and diversity within its community. Also, there are so many different student societies on offer at the Guild of Students which bring together students from different backgrounds and provide a safe space to partake in familiar and comforting activities, there truly is a place for everyone here.

What’s your highlight of your time at the University?

Embrace the opportunity to be overseas and be my real self is definitely the highlight of my time at the University. There are opportunities to discover new things, new people, new cultures, and embrace the difference. I gradually came out of my comfort zone and became friends with my peers from different countries.

What advice would you give to students thinking about studying on the course?

For students learning mathematics, just attending lectures is not enough, but also need to spend a lot of time self-study. The lecture notes and problem sheets are very important resources and should be repeatedly used and practised until you are very proficient.

Is there anything extra students thinking about studying on the course should know?

Work hard, play hard, and enjoy life. we may face the pressures of exams or to apply for postgraduate studies. There are so many activities and societies on campus and you can use your holidays to experience British culture in other cities. Manage your time effectively, set aside adequate time for homework, study, sleep, relationships, and work, and don’t forget to enjoy life.
