PERCAT Workshop: Developing your Research Idea

Dates

Contact

The workshop is now fully booked, however we will be maintaining a small reserve list in case any participants drop out.  If you wish to be added to this list please contact Jennifer Thomson.

Are you a postdoc or early career researcher at an early stage of developing a research idea for a fellowship application but are not sure yet the best way to take it forward or the right funder for the idea?  Are you looking for help and support to develop a rough idea into something that can be taken forward to the application stage?

This workshop will give you the opportunity to present your ideas to an academic panel who will provide constructive criticism to help you develop them further. There will also be the opportunity to learn about how to plan your next steps, how to prepare a lay summary of your idea, and who to contact for further support as you develop your idea further.

***Please note: this is not a ‘mock panel’ session and is not suitable for those who have a fully worked out research idea or who have already reached the application stage.  If you are at this stage please contact your school’s Research Facilitator for further support.***

The Panel:

  • Prof Alison Davenport, Professor of Corrosion Science, Head of School of Metallurgy and Materials
  • Prof Alicia El Haj, Interdisciplinary Chair of Cell Engineering, School of Chemical Engineering
  • Prof Suzanne Higgs, Professor in the Psychobiology of Appetite, School of Psychology
  • Prof Nicole Metje, Professor of Infrastructure Monitoring, Department of Civil Engineering
  • Prof Francis Pope, Professor of Atmospheric Science, School of Geography, Earth and Environmental Sciences

Who is this seminar aimed at?

Postdoctoral and early career research staff in EPS and LES who are at an early stage of developing their research idea and who would like further support with this.
