Inaugural Lecture: Air Quality Inequality
- Location
- WG5 - Aston Webb Building
- Dates
- Wednesday 1 May 2019 (16:30-18:30)
The College of Life and Environmental Sciences is delighted to present the inaugural lecture of Francis Pope, Professor of Atmospheric Science.
Poor air quality is a global problem that affects both physical and mental health. It varies in cities in both time and space, and vulnerable urban dwellers are disproportionately affected depending on their age, gender, and occupation. Inadequate policies and countermeasures for poor air quality lead to damaging, and preventable, health inequalities. This talk will discuss examples from Birmingham, East Africa and India to show how air pollution varies throughout cities, and how the city can help and hinder air quality.
