Come and join us at a very special event to launch the University of Birmingham’s LGBT History Month Celebrations.

"Out in the NHS - a personal history" - Dame Julie Moore

Our keynote speaker will be Dame Julie Moore, Chief Executive of University Hospitals Birmingham and Interim Chief Executive of Heart of England NHS Foundation Trust.  Julie was made a Dame Commander of the British Empire in 2012 for services to healthcare and was listed as a national LGBT role model by Health Services Journal in 2014.

Film Screening, with an introduction by Dr Michele Aaron, from B Film, The University's Centre for Film Studies

The event will also feature a screening of 'The Queen of Ireland'* an acclaimed documentary that tells the story of Pandora ‘Panti’ Bliss, a drag queen who became a figurehead for the Irish LGBT Community in the campaign leading up to the vote on gay marriage. The film has received much critical acclaim and is described by the film makers as:

" ... how one man in a dress has mobilised a nation and an international community to stand up and fight against injustice."

Rainbow Voices Choir

The evening will finish with a celebration of diversity in song, from the West Midlands' Rainbow Voices Choir.

The launch event is free, but booking is essential.

*Please note: 'The Queen of Ireland' has an 18 classification and contains strong sexual detail and sex references.
