ANIMAL FARM — IMPORTANT NOTICE

The University of Birmingham has been very carefully monitoring the national position in relation to the progress of coronavirus, and has been taking note of advice from the World Health Organisation (WHO), Public Health England (PHE) and other sources, including local partners.

Based on this most up-to-date information, and with very heavy hearts, it has regrettably become necessary for us to cancel the four sold out public performances of Animal Farm which were scheduled to take place this week.

We realise how disappointing this news will be, and we want to assure everyone that the decision was not taken lightly, and was with the best interests of our students in mind. This course of action was only confirmed within the last few hours, and we are posting here at our very earliest opportunity to let everyone know about this change of plans.

All those who have paid for their tickets online will receive a full refund to the credit or debit card with which their payment was made. Because our staff have very limited access to campus systems (and will be working remotely for the immediate future), this refund process may take a little longer than usual, please bear with us. We will be contacting ticket holders individually by email over the coming days, and we ask that you please do not contact the box office in the meantime, as we are receiving high volumes of enquiries.

We recognise that many of those who come to see theatre are themselves freelancers working in the industry, and they are being hit very hard financially. For others who feel they are able, please consider donating that refund to a small independent theatre company. Over the coming months they will need all the help they can get.

On behalf of everyone here, we would like to say how truly sorry we are for the disappointment and inconvenience that this will cause. We would also like to thank everyone for their patience and understanding- students, staff and public, while we do our best to minimise the impact of these challenging and wholly unforeseen circumstances on the activity of the Drama Department and the University as a whole.
