Title of thesis: Historical Re-evaluation and Monuments to Human Stupidity in Europe Today
Supervisor: Dr John Carman
Description of research - During my Mphil I explored the idea of historical re-evaluation as a new approach to post-war heritage studies. I am developing this idea further and combining it with a study of the relationships between countries and Europe today. More specifically I am focusing on capital cities in Central Europe and how selected cities use cultural heritage to historically re-evaluate their national, European and global identities. I am particularly interested in what happens when these identities conflict and how countries are using heritage to create ‘gaps’ in their nation’s history.
