Research in Engineering and Physical Sciences

Research in the College of Engineering and Physical Sciences is transforming our understanding of the world to make life easier, healthier and more sustainable.

  • Our research spans seven academic schools, all with far-reaching research excellence.

Our research tackles global sustainability challenges through studies in the use of pharmaceuticals and bi-products, food production and processing, energy research, materials sustainability and resourcing to improve our carbon footprint, chemical impacts on health and environment, battery advances for vehicles, and engineering in many sectors. Our innovative work seeks to enhance our world's building and infrastructure techniques, advance health care and medical equipment, and utilise computer science to enhance our security, privacy, robotics and AI. Our maths, physics and astronomy research further underpin our understanding of how our planet works and to determine the history of our universe.

Led by experts, our research and teaching aim to make significant impacts by developing innovative solutions to everyday problems, and advancing scientific knowledge to create a healthier and more sustainable future for us all.
