Research

The purpose of this project is to uncover the relationship between the production of English country house heritage and the country house represented on film and television screens. I will explore how screen imagery and screen narrative influence the production of country house heritage, and how dependent and involved the physical country house becomes with its screen representation. I will attempt to outline the relationship between the country house as a symbol of national identity and its portrayal in film and television programmes, and the impact this portrayal may have on the socio-cultural identity of the English.
