Professor Josette Camilleri

You are invited to attend the inaugural lecture of Professor Josette Camilleri, from the School of Dentistry, entitled: 'From Portland with love'.

Josette Camilleri is a Professor of Endodontics and Applied Materials at the University of Birmingham. She has been involved in the study of hydraulic cements that originally have been used in the construction industry since the Roman times. Among these materials, Portland cement, a household invention in the late 18th century, has been used ever since as a binder in concrete. In the 1990s, Portland cement was translated for use as a dental cement as the wetness of the human body does not deteriorate its properties unlike other dental materials. The introduction of Portland cement to Dentistry as mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA) has enabled more predictable clinical procedures and newer techniques. In this lecture, Josette will be describing how her research has led to the understanding of how the cement interacts with the human tissues and also the development of new clinical protocols that have enabled the better used of hydraulic cements in Dentistry.

This lecture will be held in person and online via Zoom, please register above. If you are planning to attend online, you must then register via Zoom using the link provided in your confirmation email. This will then generate the Zoom link for you to add to your diary to join the event.
