Vice-Chancellor's Office

Professor Adam Tickell became Vice-Chancellor and Principal of the University of Birmingham in January 2022 after five years as Vice-Chancellor at the University of Sussex. Prior to this he served as Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Research and Knowledge Transfer), and then Provost, at Birmingham and has also worked in leadership roles at the University of Bristol and Royal Holloway, University of London.

The Vice-Chancellor is the University’s chief executive officer.

The Vice-Chancellor’s Office includes -

  • Provost and Vice-Principal
  • Three Pro-Vice-Chancellors (PVCs) for Education, Research and Knowledge Transfer and International
  • Deputy Pro-Vice-Chancellors who support the thematic PVCs in University activities
  • Assistant Registrar (Executive Support), who manages project work for the Vice-Chancellor
  • Assistant Secretary, who supports University governance and the University Executive Board
  • Professional and personal support for the Office, the Vice-Chancellor, and other senior managers.

The Vice-Chancellor’s Office works closely with the Registrar & Secretary’s Office.

The Vice-Chancellor chairs the University Executive Board (UEB), which is responsible for management of the University. UEB membership includes the Provost and Vice-Principal, three Pro Vice-Chancellors (Thematic), five Pro-Vice-Chancellors and Heads of College, the Registrar & Secretary, the Finance Director, and the Director of HR.
