Birmingham International Academy

The BIA is accredited by the British Council for the teaching of English in the UK, as a result of our high standards and student-focused approach.

The Birmingham International Academy (BIA) is designed to help international students thrive at a top global university. We offer Foundation Pathways and Presessional English programmes for international students preparing to study at Birmingham, as well as English Language support for students already here. 

  • Foundation Pathways

    Our foundation pathways provide a route into undergraduate study at the University of Birmingham. All pathway students are taught by Birmingham academics and students on these programmes have full access to campus facilities and University life.

  • Presessional English

    For international students holding a conditional offer where English is a requirement, Presessional English offers an alternative to IELTS or similar, as a route into Birmingham undergraduate and postgraduate study.

Once you have enrolled onto your chosen programme at the University of Birmingham, you can access a range of Academic English classes, 1-1s, workshops and resources.

As an undergraduate or postgraduate student at Birmingham, you can benefit from our open access english classes, self-asses your academic English, book individual language tutorials, get answers to your language queries and download self-study materials.

Birmingham International Academy is situated on the beautiful Edgbaston Campus in Priorsfield (G18 on the Edgbaston Campus Map)

The Edgbaston Campus is in a quiet and attractive part of Birmingham, about 4km from the city centre. The campus has its own University railway station, it is on the main bus routes and it is easy to get to by car.
