We know the transition into life beyond university can be daunting, so to help you get ready, we’re hosting a week of interactive sessions which will provide you with tips, tricks and tools to help get your career off to a great start.

Monday 13 June

Top Tips for CVs, Cover Letters and Applications - Monday 13 June, 11:00 - 12:00

Our innovative ‘Top Tip’ sessions are designed to give you the confidence and tools to make your way successfully through the application and selection process.

Career planning workshop - exploring options with your degree including further study - Monday 13 June, 12:00 - 13:00 (Hybrid event)

This hybrid workshop is an opportunity for final year students to explore options with their degree.

The second part of the session will focus on one of these options in detail: Further study (Masters and PhDs)

Tuesday 14 June

Planning your career starts here: explore your options and graduate opportunities - Tuesday 14 June, 12:00 - 13:00 (Hybrid event)

This interactive session will be delivered as a bimodal webinar and classroom event and will focus on preparing you to take the next steps from UoB and beyond.

Top Tips for Interview and Assessment Centre Success - Tuesday 14 June, 13:00 - 14:00

Our innovative ‘Top Tip’ sessions are designed to give you the confidence and tools to make your way successfully through the application and selection process.

Come along to our 60 minute interviews session to find out how to prepare and what to keep in mind on the day itself.

Wednesday 15 June

From Campus to Career - Wednesday 15 June 2022, 11:00 – 13:30

Our one-day hybrid Campus to Career Event, will provide you with the tools, tips and tricks you need to start your career on the right foot.

This is your opportunity to hear from Alumni about their career experiences since graduating and from employers and career professionals to learn more about recruitment processes and starting a new job.

11:00 – 12:00 – Alumni and Employer Panel (Life after graduation) – Hybrid (Aston Webb Main Lecture Theatre/Zoom - online)

This is your opportunity to hear from alumni about their experiences after graduation as well as how to gain more experience, how to sell your skills to employers and how to be resilient when looking for a graduate role.

You’ll also hear from a range of employers about what they look for in candidates, how the pandemic has impacted the way they recruit and also how to make the most of LinkedIn.

12:00 – 13:30 – Meet Careers Network – Aston Webb Main Lecture Theatre

Come along to the Aston Webb Main Lecture Theatre for a chance to meet Careers Network and find out more about what we offer.

Learn how to use your Careers Connect account to book appointments, events and access our online support, meet our careers advisers to find out how they can support you and find out how to search for work experience, internships and graduate roles. 

Thursday 16 and Friday 17 June - Considering postgraduate study

Postgraduate Research Festival - Thursday 16 June and Friday 17 June, 13:00 - 17:00

The University Graduate School is hosting its annual PG Research Festival, the largest and most multidisciplinary celebration of postgraduate research here at UoB! 

This is the biggest celebration of postgraduate research at the University of Birmingham, giving postgraduates from different disciplines the opportunity to share their work with the wider University and beyond.

The Festival includes a packed programme with most events open to all staff, students, and partners of the University interested in postgraduate research (a particular welcome to PGTs and UGs applying for/considering PG studies!).

If you are graduating in July 2022, please request a graduate account in Careers Connect and we will approve your request in July. In the meantime, please continue to use your student account.

1. Register with Careers Network

Create a graduate account in Careers Connect. This will allow you to browse graduate jobs and internships, book your place on an event or book a 1-1 careers appointment to discuss your next steps.

2. Check our latest online events programme

Our online programme of events and activities (see below) are tailored for you to develop your skills and enhance your professional network.

3. Careers Mentoring scheme

Apply for the Careers Mentoring scheme to help you crystallise your career goals and plan your next steps by learning from a professional working in an area of interest.

4. Free CV Checker and interview tools

Get instant feedback on your CV with our online tool ‘CV Checker’ and practice your interview technique online.

5. Brum Alum LinkedIn group

Keep up to date by following us on Brum Alum LinkedIn group for the latest news, guidance and advice.

  2. Networking opportunities - get connected to regional and local organisations, employability programmes and for graduate jobs or entry into self-employment by joining the Transformation West Midlands LinkedIn Group
