Join us at our first Careers in Tech panel event designed for Birmingham alumni who have graduated within the last ten years.

Attendees will gain an insight into the skills and careers within tech and learn how to find a path in the sector despite their degree. The event will also aim to demystify common misconceptions about tech roles and showcase Birmingham as a tech and digital hub.

Tickets are £5 and include a complimentary drink.

Andrew Ward (BSc Computer Science with Business Management, 2010) Managing Director, Scorchsoft

 Andrew is a UK technology entrepreneur and app developer. He's the CEO of Scorchsoft, a web and app development agency that helps its clients to deliver innovative, technically complex projects, using the latest web and mobile application development technologies. He is also the CTO of MODL App, a disruptive platform enabling people to book agency-represented professional models. Andrew is a founding director of both companies and has earned several awards including Silicon Canal's “most influential male” in tech award and the Chamber of Commerce’s Future Face of Entrepreneurship title.   

 

Lexi Willetts (LLB Law, 2003) C-Suite, Board Advisor

Legal100 listed and Forbes covered COO, Lexi is a qualified EU Trade Mark Attorney. A Birmingham graduate, she launched her legal career with Marks & Clerk LLP before becoming Head of IP at FIFA HQ Zurich, acting as brand custodian for FIFA World Cup projects globally. In 2013 she repositioned, gaining a first class Masters in Luxury Brand Management and from there was offered her first COO role with digital start up Wistla, a group-based networking app that she housed in Amazon AWS Peacetech Accelerator at the US Institute of Peace in 2017 and remains as Board Advisor. 

This year she became Director of coinweb.io, a blockchain infrastructure that powers blockchain interoperability.

Chris Meah (BSc Artificial Intelligence and Computer Science, 2011; PhD Physical Sciences of Imaging in the Biomedical Sciences, 2017), Founder and CEO of School of Code, CEO of Cogcept

Chris founded the School of Code in 2015 during his PhD to ensure that no one is left behind as technology advances. Through the School of Code, Chris aims to change the way people learn to code, making it fun, social, and accessible to everyone. You can read more about Chris in a recent article in Old Joe.

Ian Myatt (BA Commerce, 1999) Director of Educational Enterprise, University of Birmingham

 Ian has significant experience of using new technology to forge a closer relationship between content producers and consumers. He was recognised as a "Hotshot" by Broadcast magazine early in his career and has played a crucial role in developing and delivering a number of high profile digital services across various platforms.
