Alumni Voices - Jack the Ripper

Thursday 28 July

17:00 PST | 19:00 CST | 20:00 EST

Online via Zoom

The University of Birmingham Alumni Network – USA invites you to the next event in their popular Alumni Voices Series.

Join US based alumni for a special get-together and talk from Birmingham graduate Chris Lardge (BSc Chemical Engineering, 1965; PhD Chemical Engineering, 1968), who will be discussing the infamous Victorian era serial killer, Jack the Ripper. There will be 10 minutes open chat at the start of the event followed by Chris' presentation and discussion.

Chris says: 'Although the murders occurred in 1888, the Ripper story had largely been forgotten until an Anglo-American journalist named Daniel Farson moved to the East End of London and rediscovered it. He covered the story in an episode of his ITV series Farson's Guide to the British. What followed was a deluge of movies, TV shows and books based – and sometimes very loosely based - on the Ripper story. My presentation will cover the crimes, Jack's modus operandi, and the prime suspects – and fair warning will be given for any crime scene photographs!'

Please email James Stamp to register for the event. He will then send you the Zoom details.
