Internships

Internships
The University is committed to developing relationships with a range of industry partners so that they contribute to our students teaching and learning.

Birmingham graduates are highly sought after; industry partners recognise the quality of our students. Keen to work with the University and our students, we have employers who have offered bespoke internships. Below is a sample of what has been offered this year:

Virtual internships

Virtual InternshipsVirtual internships are remote internships with real companies, with real projects. Just like a 'normal' internship, you will have project work/tasks from an employer to complete over a period of time. However, whilst you will be working with a national or international employer, you will not be based at their location, and instead complete the work remotely or virtually. You will have regular catch-ups and support from the employer during your virtual internship.

Two virtual internship projects have been offered to students studying in Dubai:

  • Social Enterprise/Charity Virtual Internship – Students from Dubai have collaborated with students from the UK (Birmingham & Nottingham) and Queensland, Australia to work on projects for employers in the UK and Australia.
  • Gulf4Good Strategic Support Virtual Internship – Students based in Dubai have been given the opportunity to work with their peers in Edgbaston on a project for a Dubai-based employer.

Grant Thornton

Global financial consultancy firm Grant Thornton have offered students the valuable opportunity to undertake internships in their Dubai office. Grant Thornton is one of the world's largest professional services networks of independent accounting and consulting member firms which provide assurance, tax. Students have been offered invaluable experience of undertaking practical paid assignments for the firm which has helped develop their professional behaviours.
