The fourth UoB-UNESP Social Systems for Future Manufacturing (SSFM) webinar explores digital transformation and future manufacturing from IBM’s view point. Digital transformation in the broader context of Industry 4.0 not only brings new realities by accessing previously isolated knowledge, but also introduces disruption to the outputs, processes and structures of a company. These disruptive opportunities and challenges must prompt organisations to rethink whether their current capabilities are still relevant to keep up with existing and emerging competition. The webinar brings together IBM insight and University of Birmingham research to reveal industrial trends and suggest directions for future manufacturing.
Speakers
Jeffrey A. Baetz, Global Industry CTO, IBM
Jeffrey started his career journey in analytics back in 1997 and has worked for several technology OEM’s and OEM Business Partners understanding how to control the complex sale and solving his clients’ business problems leveraging software technologies and services. Since joining IBM in August 2016, Jeffrey has worked for some of the largest technology provider companies such as AT&T, Nortel Networks, Verizon Business, and SAS, to name a few. Since joining IBM in August of 2016, he has held positions as an Open Source Analytics Evangelist, Named Account Manager, and Analytics Portfolio Sales Leader assigned to Toyota, TFS, Lexus, Ford, Ford Motor Credit Corporation, FCA, Aptiv, Delphi Technologies, Boeing, and Honda North America – all within the IBM Industrial vertical market. In April 2020, IBM promoted Jeffrey to the position of Global Industry CTO for IBM’s Industrial Market and is focused on solutioning for Automotive, Manufacturing, Oil & Gas, and Natural Resource Mining clients worldwide.
Sir Mike Gregory
Following an early career in industry Sir Mike Gregory was the was the founder member of the team which established the IfM in 1998. Linking science, engineering, management and policy and integrating education, research and practice the IfM now has over 230 staff and research students and a further 100 undergraduate and Masters students. He retired as Head of the Manufacturing and Management Division of the University of Cambridge's Department of Engineering and of the Institute for Manufacturing (IfM) in 2015. Sir Mike Gregory's work is closely linked with industry and government and he has published in the areas of manufacturing strategy, technology management, international manufacturing and manufacturing policy. External activities have included membership of various government and institutional committees. He served as Executive Director of the Cambridge MIT Institute from 2005-2008, Springer Visiting Professor at UC Berkeley in 2008/9, Acting Director of the Institute for Continuing Education in 2015/16 and has been a Senior Advisor to the Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership (CISL) since 2017. He has recently completed a term on the Supervisory Board of the High Value Manufacturing Catapult where he was one of the founding directors. He chairs the Babbage International Policy Forum and is President of the Cambridge Society for the Application of Research (CSAR). He is a Fellow of Churchill College, Cambridge and of the Royal Academy of Engineering, where he was a trustee.
Graziella Caputo, Senior Data Scientist and Industrial Lead, IBM Data Science Elite Team
Graziella is a Senior Data Scientist and Machine Learning Engineer in the IBM Data Science Elite Team. She obtained her BSc in Computer Science in 2004 and Master in Computational Systems in 2006. She concluded her PhD in 2011 in the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, in collaboration with the University La Sapienza, Italy, in Computational Systems, emphasis in Artificial Intelligence. Before joining IBM, Graziella worked as Chief Data Scientist at dataVedik and previously as Project Manager and Lead Data Scientist for Subsurface projects at Schlumberger. Some other projects that Graziella worked include Natural Language Processing to increase Competitive Intelligence for Petrobras, and Smart Cities Big Data to improve urban mobility and reduce traffic accidents.
