HEFi Conference 2019: Learning and Teaching in the 'Next Generation' University

The University of Birmingham, Higher Education Futures institute (HEFi) Annual Conference is an opportunity to learn with and from external leaders, colleagues and students about innovation and good practice in the policy and practice field of Higher Education Learning and Teaching.

This year's conference HEFi19 will consider questions about the ‘next generation’ university, and explore ways in which higher education learning and teaching must evolve to ensure graduates are ready for their futures. It will be sponsored by education, skill development and research organisation Wiley, and takes place on campus on Thursday 20th and Friday 21st June, 2019. 

The 4th Industrial Revolution will result in significant changes to many graduate-level occupations. Artificial intelligence will replace some existing skills and tasks while creating new job opportunities. Knowledge production will become more distributed and knowledge increasingly accessible as digitisation continues apace and the range, scale and quality of online learning grow. Global megatrends in demographics, increased intolerance of inequality and the fast pace of change in the labour market will lead to new demands for learning that is lifelong, personalised, bite-size, integrated and industry-linked, supported by agile micro-credentialling systems. HEFi19 will focus on 4 main aspects of Education 4.0:

• Lifelong Learning
• Digitised Futures
• Employer-Led Learning
• Addressing Inequality

HEFi19 will feature keynote speakers from across the globe, including Professor Ho Teck Hua of the National University of Singapore; Professor Linda Price, Director of Academic & Organisational Development at the University of Bedfordshire, and Zac Ashkanasy, Principal of management consulting firm Nous. A conference dinner on Thursday 20th June will offer networking opportunities and after-dinner speech from Stephen Isherwood, Chief Executive of the Institute of Student Employers.
