Making Space: Pinhole Photography workshop
7th June, 2pm-5pm, Booking essential, suitable for families – children will require adult supervision, from age 7 upwards
£6 standard/£3 student – for booking details please see here.
Photographic artist and educator, Jo Gane, leads this workshop exploring analogue photography techniques. Attendees will use recycled materials to construct a working analogue pinhole camera which can be used to photograph the area around the Research and Cultural Collections Study Centre, particularly exploring links to the history of women at the University. Analogue negative images will be made on silver gelatin paper that will be processed during the workshop using a small portable darkroom, then ‘printed’ using your own smartphone technology.
There will also be the opportunity to explore the photographic collections, including historic analogue cameras and diverse photographic archives, held by Research and Cultural Collections.
This event is part of the programme accompanying the exhibition Making Space: Celebrating Women at the University of Birmingham. Making Space aims to place images of inspirational women associated with the University of Birmingham at the very centre of campus and create a lasting legacy for the future.
If you would like to ‘print’ your photographs, please bring a smartphone or tablet.
