Curious about the history of LGBTQ activism and social change in Brum?

Birmingham, with its rich history of activism, has played a pivotal role in advancing LGBTQ+ rights. From the early protests organised by trade unions in the 1980s and 1990s to contemporary movements advocating for intersectional inclusivity, Birmingham’s LGBTQ+ community has been at the forefront of the fight for equality. Join us in exploring this rich history, with a discussion ranging from drag balls and 1970s queer culture at the University to queer women’s social and activist networks.

In collaboration with the Centre for Midlands History and Culture, this event will draw on current research undertaken by current SHaC students, Ophelia and Katherine, with a discussion led by Professor Mo Moulton.
