Join us for an enlightening event with Sacha Coward (he/him), to celebrate the publication of his book Queer as Folklore: The Hidden Queer History of Myths and Monsters.
“You are welcome here. Queer history is everyone’s history.”
- Sacha Coward, ‘Introduction’ in Queer as Folklore
During this event, Sacha will explore the evolution of folklore, highlighting the cultural significance of monsters and mythical beings and how these are entwined with LGBTQ+ histories. Discover how these stories have shaped and reflected queer identities throughout history, continually morphing from symbols of oppression to figures of resistance, self-expression and queer joy.
This event is part of the University of Birmingham's LGBTQ+ History Month celebrations and promises to be an engaging and thought-provoking experience. Whether you're a folklore enthusiast, a member of the LGBTQ+ community, or simply curious about the intersections of mythology and queer culture, this lecture is not to be missed.
This event is open for University's students and staff only.
