Join Max Porter for a night of poetry, performance and discussion to celebrate Shy, a novel about being lost in the dark and realising you are not alone, exploring guilt, rage, imagination and boyhood.

Hear Max Porter read and discuss his work alongside performances from Iona Mandal, Birmingham Young Poet Laureate, Nafeesa Hamid, Verve Poetry Press, The Exchange - Making Home exhibition, and young people from youth groups across Birmingham. Copies of Max Porter’s books and Shy can be purchased on the night from The Heath Bookshop.

This event is a partnership between Faber, The Exchange Birmingham and Birmingham Stories (National Literacy Trust). All ticket proceeds will go to Birmingham Stories work supporting children and young people across Birmingham to improve literacy levels and encourage reading for pleasure.

Max Porter is the author of Lanny, longlisted for the Booker Prize, and Grief Is the Thing with Feathers, winner of the International Dylan Thomas Prize and shortlisted for the Guardian First Book Award and the Goldsmiths Prize. He is the recipient of the Sunday Times/Peter, Fraser + Dunlop Young Writer of the Year award.
