Digital methods in palaeobiology - a new workshop supported by The Palaeontological Association and hosted by Stephan Lautenschlager - will be held at the Lapworth Museum between 14th-16th October 2024.

Aimed at early career researchers, this will provide training in many aspects of virtual palaeontology including:

  • Digitisation of fossils using CT scanning and photogrammetry
  • Virtual restoration of fossils and soft-tissue reconstruction
  • Functional analysis and geometric morphometrics
  • Machine-learning techniques

All training will be conducted with freely available software and resources so that participants can directly apply the methods to their research.

Each day will start at 9am and run until 4pm, with coffee and lunch breaks. Participants will need to bring their own laptops but software, sample data, and hand-outs will be provided. The workshop is capped to 15 spaces.

All workshop places have been allocated.
