What we will achieve
Through extensive ground-level research undertaken by academics and community-researchers who will conduct hundreds of interviews and an extensive household survey, the UPWEB project will enable the development of a rich database of healthcare activity in each neighbourhood enabling us to understand how diverse residents use a wide range of resources including formal, informal, transnational and virtual services to meet their health needs. This information will be supplemented with detailed profiles of national and local health provisions relevant to those ppoulations.
By joining up data gathered from residents and health providers we will identify different models of health seeking behaviour and provision which will have potential to assist policy-makers in developing services in Birmingham. We are also creating a mobile web-based access point for residents in the research areas to assist them in understanding how they can seek effective support, advice and treatment.
How you can engage with the project
The ethos of the UPWEB team is one which actively encourages collaboration with partners, whether they are health professionals, policy-makers or community and charitable organisations with an interest in the health and welfare of citizens.
Throughout 2015 and 2016 we will undertake interviews with policy-makers, practitioners and community organisations in and around the Handsworth, Lozells and Edgbaston areas as part of a process that will build a profile of existing health provision.
