This course is perfect for international students who want to experience UK academic life while exploring one of the most dynamic areas of social sciences. The media and society program dives into the fascinating relationship between media, identity, and culture. Over three weeks, students will explore how media influences our lives, from ancient symbols to today’s digital platforms. All this while engaging in dynamic, hands-on activities that bring theory to life.

If you are curious about how media influences society and want to learn through debates, creative projects, and real-world case studies, then this course is for you. Students will:

  • Learn from experts: Delivered by academics from the University of Birmingham’s Birmingham International Academy.

Who can apply?

  • International students aged 18+ and studying at an undergraduate level.
  • Meet the BISS entry requirements for English Language Proficiency (minimum B2, aiming for C1).

How will you be assessed?

At the end of the programme, there will be a formal assessment consisting of a group presentation.

A pass requires a minimum of 40% in combination with a minimum attendance of 90% of timetabled activities.

Please check with your home institution regarding transfer recognition of credits.

The BISS was an exceptional and International experience for me. It did not only advance my studies and knowledge of film and media, but even gave me the chance to make friends across the globe and grow personally.
