The University of Birmingham welcomes applications from students from Libya and has a small thriving student community on campus on a number of programmes.

Birmingham is one of the most diverse cities in the UK, and is home to a large Muslim population. In and around the city, there are nearly 200 mosques, including Birmingham Central Mosque, one of the most recognized and magnificent religious buildings in the city of Birmingham. There is an abundance of Halal shops, butchers and restaurants. A growing number of national chain restaurants also now use halal ingredients. When it comes to our accommodation, as well as being a safe and comfortable 'home away from home', students can opt to live in a same-gender residency, as well as an alcohol-free environment.

Foundation Pathways

BIA requirements statement

Holders of the Secondary Education Certificate, with an overall average of 80% or above will be considered for entry. This should include 80% in Maths for the Engineering and Physical Science Pathway.

Undergraduate

The University will consider students who have taken GCE A Level examination, the International Baccalaureate (IB), or a suitable foundation programme (such as the Birmingham Foundation Academy), for entrance to undergraduate programmes.

Students who have completed a Higher Technician Diploma with minimum GPA of 65%, or a Bachelors degree from a Higher Technical or Vocational Institution with minimum GPA of 65%, may be considered for entry to the first year of an undergraduate degree programme.

Students who have the Secondary Education Certificate plus one year of a Bachelors degree from a recognised university with a minimum GPA or 65% may also be considered.

Postgraduate Taught

Holders of a Bachelors degree from a recognised university in Libya will be considered for postgraduate study. Holders of a Bachelors degree will normally be expected to have achieved score of 70% for 2:1 equivalency or 65% for 2:2 equivalency. Alternatively students will require a minimum of 3.0/4.0 or BB to be considered.

When you are on campus, you are in the heart of University life - it's the perfect place to meet friends, whether it's to have a bite to eat, discuss your seminar notes or meet up before heading off to a sports club or society.

You can also take advantage of our fantastic facilities on campus. Study in our state-of-the-art academic library with its stunning views over campus, or wind down after lectures at our £55 million Sport and Fitness Club. Our student sports club memberships are affordable, and with numerous classes, a swimming pool, 55 student sports teams and ‘try a sport’ courses, there really is something for everyone.

Student societies

Many nationality groups form student societies during their time at the University of Birmingham. The student societies are an excellent way to keep in contact with home and also provide an opportunity to highlight your culture and customs in the UK. Student societies are also a useful point of contact for prospective students to Birmingham who may want to contact current students for information.

Among many others, the Guild of Students currently has an Arab Society and an Islamic Society. Joining societies is a great way to meet other Lybian students at the university.

Careers

We offer dedicated support for international students, including an international careers consultant and a team of international student ambassadors. We will support you in developing the skills you will need to fully prepare for the working world or further academic study, whether this is in your home country or elsewhere.

Our Careers Network researches jobs all over the world. We host fairs, workshops and presentations, which are attended by many large, global companies that offer opportunities worldwide. We also offer a huge database of information on employers, vacancies and industry trends in a range of countries.

Alumni

The University of Birmingham has many strong alumni groups all over the world. Alumni groups are an excellent way of keeping in contact with the University and with other graduates from Birmingham who live in your country. Some alumni groups meet on a regular basis for social and professional events.
