University of Birmingham and Ukraine

We have a long tradition of welcoming students from Ukraine. There are currently a number of Ukrainian students at the University following undergraduate and postgraduate courses in a range of subjects.

The University of Birmingham is among the world’s top 100 universities, renowned for changing lives and transforming society. Birmingham is a founding member of the Russell Group with a glorious, green campus, outstanding teaching and facilities and a vibrant and welcoming community. Located in the heart of England, Birmingham is an exciting and vibrant city with a fascinating history. Committed to providing students with outstanding teaching and facilities, there’s never been a more exciting time to study at the University of Birmingham.

We have dedicated international recruitment officers across both campuses who will support you during all stages of your enquiry and application to the University.

Sanctuary Scholarship

The University has been providing all possible practical and emotional support to current students and staff who have been affected by the conflict in Ukraine. We recognise that many more people will be affected and displaced by these terrible events, and we are working on ways in which we can go further to support those who are seeking refuge and sanctuary in the UK.

For future students who are already located in the UK we will be offering a new “Sanctuary Scholarship” including a full fee waiver and support for living costs.  This scheme will be open to all new students, for undergraduate or postgraduate taught study, who have sought refuge in the UK and are unable to access student loans or other sources of statutory funding available in the UK, due to their residency status.  Further information about this scheme will be published shortly at our webpages.

We hope that you are safe and well and we would like to assure you of our commitment to supporting those affected and displaced by the unjustified and unprovoked attack on the sovereign and democratic nation of Ukraine.

“The fact that the University is part of the Russell Group gave me the impression of a very reliable and competitive institution, which meant that they care about the students; invest in the knowledge and the research with the result of attracting the best professors and companies.”

Please note: If you have taken exams which are from another country's national education system (eg SAT and AP exams from the USA) you should consult that country's page for qualification equivalence information. If you are unsure about the acceptability of your qualifications for entry to Birmingham please contact us for further details.

English Language

You will need to demonstrate a certain level of English language, either through an English test such as IELTS, TOEFL or PTE, or we may be able to accept your previous or alternative qualifications as evidence. Please view the entry requirements for specific programme requirements, and details on our presessional English language courses.

Foundation Pathways

Our foundation pathways are suitable if you have completed a high school qualification that is below the equivalent standard of UK A levels, and therefore doesn't allow for direct entry to undergraduate courses at UK universities. We will also consider students who have completed qualifications that would normally lead to direct entry onto an undergraduate degree, whose grades are slightly below our undergraduate entry criteria. Please visit the Birmingham International Academy website for more information.

The University will consider students who have taken GCE A Level examinations, the International Baccalaureate (IB), or a suitable foundation programme, such as the Birmingham Foundation Academy, for entrance to undergraduate programmes.
