Complex Restorative Procedures

This module is designed for distance learning to enable students to demonstrate advanced knowledge and clinical skill in the following subject areas:

  • Management of non-carious tooth tissue loss
  • Periodontal medicine and antimicrobials
  • Peri-radicular endodontic surgery
  • Dental implants
  • Treatment planning

Some module content will also be delivered at two face-to-face residential courses and will provide teaching and/or practical simulation experience in the following module 6 subject areas:

  • Direct restorative techniques
  • Endodontics
  • Treatment planning

Distance learning. Two one-week residential courses.

Module Dates
Year 1: October-January


Practical simulation exercises in direct restorative techniques (Wear case) 30%
Structured preparation and restoration exercise simulating the restoration of 6 lower anterior teeth using direct composite carried out on plastic models. Students will photograph this exercises and complete structured templates for summative assessment.

Endodontic exercises

•Endodontics short answer questions 10%

•Endodontic clinical case report A 20%

•Endodontic clinical case report B 20%

Treatment planning exercises
Complete structured template on two pre-prepared clinical cases

•Treatment planning case 5 (Wear case) 10%

•Treatment planning case 6 (RPD design and implant assessment and treatment planning) 10%
