Complex Restorative Procedures

This module is designed for distance learning to enable students to demonstrate advanced knowledge and clinical skill in the following subject areas:

  • Management of non-carious tooth tissue loss
  • Periodontal medicine and antimicrobials
  • Peri-radicular endodontic surgery
  • Dental implants
  • Treatment planning

Some module content will also be delivered at two face-to-face residential courses and will provide teaching and/or practical simulation experience in the following module 6 subject areas:

  • Direct restorative techniques
  • Endodontics
  • Treatment planning

Distance learning. Two one-week residential courses.

Module Dates
Year 1: October-January

Assessment

  1. Practical simulation exercises in direct restorative techniques (Wear case) 30%
    Structured preparation and restoration exercise simulating the restoration of 6 upper anterior teeth using direct composite carried out on plastic models. Students will photograph this exercise and complete structured templates for summative assessment.
  2. Endodontic exercise (40%)
    Endodontic clinical case report.
  3. Treatment planning exercise (30%)
    Complete structured template on a pre-prepared clinical case.
    Treatment planning case 5 (Wear case).
