Module Overview

The student should will have the opportunity to identify learning needs from previous clinical experiences and attempt to address these needs within a different health care situation.  The opportunity will exist to consolidate skills developed during previous placements and further develop new profession specific skills and to acquire new knowledge. There will be the opportunity to participate in some form of service development or audit, as well to develop leadership skills through mentorship of first year students.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of the component students should be able to:

  • Participate in or, where appropriate instigate, a service development or audit project, demonstrating organisation, analytical and evaluative skills.
  • Demonstrate skills of leadership through mentorship of a first year student.
  • Appraise self-management of caseload, demonstrating effective communication, teamwork, assessment and treatment skills.
  • Assess the needs of a range of service users and, with reference to current professional knowledge and relevant research, apply, evaluate and modify physiotherapeutic intervention 

Module delivery

Treating patients with the guidance of a clinical educator, observation of experienced clinicians treating patients; tutorials, seminars, discussion and participation in/observation of clinics, case conferences, and ward rounds as appropriate.
