Course Type
Postgraduate, Continuing professional development, Module

Module Overview

The module will comprise a series of lectures, seminars and practical workshops focused on current research problems in neuromuscular performance through the human lifetime.

The main focus will be research methodology and recent findings in deterioration of the neuromuscular system and interventions that limit such deterioration. Topics will include muscle, nervous and skeletal physiology, nutrition, mechanics, strength and motor adaptations, and human movement (voluntary movement, postural control, locomotion).

Lectures, seminars and practical workshops. Timing and format of delivery to be agreed collaboratively.

Learning Outcomes

At the end of this module you should be able to:

  • Demonstrate an advanced understanding of neuromusculoskeletal physiology
  • Critically appraise current methodology to assess deterioration of the neuromuscular system with age
  • Justify potential exercise interventions in different scenarios
