Dr. Mustafa became interested in learning about the key HR functions and trends in the organisation, and went on to complete her Master's degree in Human Resource Management while continuing her professional career in London.

In 2010, Dr. Mustafa completed her Ph.D. at the University of London, focusing on the concept of remote work. She conducted research on remote workers in the UK, France, and the US. Her work on remote working has been published in scholarly journals such as the International journal of Human Resource Management (IJHRM) and new technology work and employment journal and was again highlighted during the pandemic by the IJHRM in their special issue on remote work.
