Raeni is an Assistant Professor of Accounting whose research centres on developing accountability frameworks for climate change, with a particular emphasis on climate finance. Her work thoroughly integrates governance, environmental, ethical, and social dimensions, engaging various stakeholders through research, publications and collaborative projects. Previously, she was a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Stockholm Environment Institute in York, where she contributed significantly to the UK Partnering for Accelerated Climate Transitions (UK PACT) project in Indonesia. Raeni teaches both undergraduate and postgraduate courses at the School, closely aligning her teaching with her research interests.

Biography

Raeni has extensive experience in research, teaching, and public engagement. 

Her research focuses on the construction of accountability mechanisms for climate change, particularly in the area of climate finance. 

After completing her PhD, she served as a Postdoctoral Research Associate at the Stockholm Environment Institute in York, working on the Indonesia-UK Partnering for Accelerated Climate Transitions (PACT) project to support the inclusive decarbonisation of Indonesia's transport sector.

Recognised for her scholarly contributions, Raeni has received the Rob Gray Emerging Scholar Award and the Reg Mathews Memorial Prize from CSEAR UK. She also actively contributes to academia as an ad-hoc reviewer for prestigious journals and has been selected as an expert reviewer for the upcoming Global Environmental Outlook, a flagship report from the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP). 

Since 2013, Raeni has been committed to teaching, drawing on her global experiences in Malaysia, Indonesia, and the UK. She covers a broad range of subjects across BSc, MSc, and MBA programmes and is qualified as an Associate Fellow of Higher Education in the UK. 

In addition to her academic duties, Raeni is actively involved in mentoring and public engagement, focusing on empowering underprivileged youth and communities in Indonesia.

Raeni invites PhD applications within the accounting discipline, particularly in areas of accounting for climate change, climate finance, climate-related financial disclosures, sustainable development, and management and public sector accounting.

Accountability mechanisms, transparency, traceability, climate finance, governance, social inclusion, participatory approaches, and sustainable development. 

Current Projects

Supporting the development of inclusive and low-carbon public transport in Indonesia as part of the UK PACT funded project (2022-2025). 

Serving as an Expert Reviewer for the upcoming Global Environment Outlook by the United Nations Environment Programme, focusing on transformation pathways for economic systems.

Other activities

Ad-hoc peer reviewer for journals such as the Social Environmental Accountability Journal, Qualitative Research in Accounting and Management. 

Outreach and educational activities with youth initiatives and marginalised communities.
