Sadegh Attari - PhD English Literature

Sadegh AttariEnglish Literature PhD student Sadegh Attari presented a paper at the Medieval English Theatre conference. We found out more about what he gained from participating in this event and his experience as a researcher at the University of Birmingham.

What benefits do you think participating in the conference has had for you from an academic perspective?

It was a great opportunity to present my work to pioneering and eminent figures in the field of medieval drama. The positive feedback from the attendees made me more confident about my own research and its academic value. Furthermore, the networking has already had its impact, as I have been asked by one of the panel chairs to submit my work to the Medieval English Theatre Journal to be considered for publication.

What professional development skills have you enhanced from working at the conference?

It is probably networking, as I learned about further employment opportunities through conversing with the attendees.

Why did you choose to undertake research at the University of Birmingham?

Outstanding reputation of the University as well as the department, the expertise of supervisors, the quality of facilities such as the library, and, lastly, financial support.

What are the best things about your course?

Without a doubt my supervisors, who have immensely supported me throughout my PhD in multiple ways and helped me develop as an early-career academic.

What support have you received during your PhD?

Apart from financial and supervisory support, I have received support form the library’s research skills team, HEFi, the Careers Network, and various parts of the University’s administrative structure.
