Crowds and Communities
- Dates
- Friday 19 July 2024 (12:00-14:00)
Our summer workshops are an opportunity to exchange ideas with others and identify new topics and areas of research to explore in future Centre events. We'll provide refreshments and a welcoming space for open discussion. PGRs particularly welcome.
In our second Centre for Digital Cultures workshop on 19 July, we'll think about digital infrastructures such as fan communities, crowdsourcing, hashtag activism and other participatory platforms that bring large groups of people together online. What are the benefits or challenges? How might these phenomena affect or shape "offline" environments and experiences? And how do we grapple with the structuring influence of algorithms, AI, and commercial or institutional profiling in these contexts?
Come along to respond to a range of scholarly perspectives on this topic, exchange ideas with others, and share insights from your own research or personal experience. No need to register in advance, but please send any questions or access requirements to Dorothy Butchard (d.butchard@bham.ac.uk)
