Clark Lecture 2023: Prioritizing Adaptation for Resilient Infrastructure

We are very pleased to invite you to this year’s annual Clark Lecture in the School of Engineering at the University of Birmingham, with Professor Jim Hall FREng, Professor of Climate and Environmental Risks at the University of Oxford.

Before joining the University of Oxford in 2011 to become Director of the University’s Environmental Change Institute, Professor Hall held academic positions in Newcastle University and the University of Bristol.

Professor Hall is internationally recognised for his research on risk analysis and decision making under uncertainty for infrastructure systems, water resource systems, flood and coastal risk management and adaptation to climate change. He is a member of the Prime Minister's Council for Science and Technology, is a Commissioner of the National Infrastructure Commission and is Vice President of the Institution of Civil Engineers and was a member of the UK independent Committee on Climate Change Adaptation from 2009 to 2019.

Please Note: An optional visit to the National Buried Infrastructure Facility (NBIF) is available from 15:00.

NBIF is a short walk from the School of Engineering and the visit will take no longer than 30 minutes. We will limit tours to groups of no more than 8 and start them at 15-minute intervals. If you would like to see this new £28m suite of laboratory facilities, please register.
