Laurie Duncan

Interdisciplinary analysis of energy systems, considering technical, economic, social, environmental and policy aspects of small community systems, focussing on reduction of carbon emissions.

Laurie Duncan is a PhD student in the Energy Systems and Policy Analysis research group. His work focuses on modelling local energy systems, and how evidence can be better used by local authorities in policymaking to achieve decarbonisation targets.

With supervisors in Chemical Engineering and the Institute for Local Government, Laurie is keen to work across different disciplines, applying scientific evidence and reasoning to policymaking contexts where traditionally there has been a lack of expertise.

Profile

Laurie graduated from the University of Warwick with an integrated Masters degree in Mathematics. He developed an enthusiasm for interdisciplinary study, writing his dissertation on the use of mathematical models of gases to simulate opinion formation of populations.
