The Birmingham and Midlands Classical Association presents the 2024 New Year’s Lecture
Dr Jessica Lightfoot, University of Birmingham, will speak on the subject of ‘Ancient Zoos’
This talk will reveal the surprising world of zoological collecting in antiquity, from the famous zoo of Ptolemy in Alexandria, to the exotic animals of the Roman amphitheatre. The impact of these ancient zoological collections and ideas on the formation of modern zoos will also be explored.
