For some, this will mean exploring prehistoric societies through their material remains, encompassing their environment and evidence of their cultural practices. For later societies, research involves the integration of increasingly diverse material records, including documents.

Themes such as funerary practices, monumental architecture, conflict, ritual and religion, settlement and social change are key research fields for many Classics, Ancient History and Archaeology (CAHA) staff, both in period- and area-specific terms, as well as through cross-cultural and interdisciplinary studies.
