On Wednesday 23 November we’ll be reflecting on collaborative public history: history that is made with and by, as well as for, the public.

It focusses specifically on academics’ collaboration with members of the public and community groups rather than institutions or individuals who are working in a professional ‘public engagement’ or ‘public history’ capacity. In the spirit of this approach, the roundtable discussion comprises academics and external partners who have worked together, each reflecting critically on the process of collaboration and engagement. Our discussion will consider the practical, political, ethical and emotional implications of these collaborations.

The session will be chaired by Karen Harvey (Birmingham) and will include Tanya Evans (Macquarie), Jerome de Groot (Manchester), and Anne Coote (professional historian), Laura King (Leeds) and Ellie Harrison (Artistic Director, The Grief Series), Josie McLellan (Bristol) and Jude Hutchen (Wellspring Settlement),Saima Nasar (Bristol), Gavin Schaffer (Birmingham) and Maureen Slattery-Marsh (Chair of British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy Spirituality, therapist at icap).
