Centre for Midlands History and  Cultures Seminar

Many are aware of the growth of the Birmingham Newhall Estate, built-up following a private Act of Parliament obtained in 1746 by Anne Colmore, but this is only a tiny part of the story. How did the Colmores acquire the De Birmingham land that was to become Newhall? Why did it end up in Anne Colmore's hands? Who inherited it?

A tale of deception, Royal greed, embezzlement, family mistrust and aristocratic debauchery. Learn the story of Birmingham's Newhall Estate from the Norman Conquest to the 20th Century with John Townley, Independent Researcher.

The seminar will be delivered online via Zoom, meeting details to be sent to all those registered two days and again two hours before the event. Please be aware that microphones will be muted during the presentation but there will be the opportunity to ask questions afterwards.

This event has been organised by the committee of the Friends of the Centre for Midlands History and Cultures, University of Birmingham. Image provided by John Townley.
