Centre for West Midlands History Research Seminar

Dr Ann-Marie Carey, Research Fellow, Birmingham School of Jewellery, BCU

In the autumn of 2021, as lockdown restrictions receded, colleagues at the School of Jewellery took the opportunity to step away from their screens and investigate an intriguing comment from a former member of staff: “You do know about the French medals in the vault?” To everyone’s astonishment, in an unlabelled storage crate, several hundred medals were discovered, many of which depicted French kings. In this seminar, Ann-Marie Carey (Associate Professor, School of Jewellery, Birmingham City University) discusses the research she and others have undertaken to identify the medals and clarify how they came to be in the possession of the School.
