The year abroad
As part of the Law with German degree I was fortunate enough to spend a year in Berlin, one of Europe’s most exciting and historical cities. Whilst moving abroad for a year is undoubtedly a daunting prospect, the support received from both the University of Birmingham and the Freie Universität Berlin helped ease us through the initial few weeks.
Berlin, as a city, was a fantastic place to experience as a student. A city steeped in such history, culture, shopping and entertainment meant there was literally never a dull moment! The university, equally, had fantastic facilities and the academic and support staff genuinely went out of their way to accommodate and welcome exchange students.
The year abroad pushed me academically, developing my ability in German and gaining an understanding of a significant European legal system. But most importantly, studying Law with German allowed me to stand out from the rest when applying to law firms. Having participated on a number of Vacation Schemes at top City firms, and having also received Training Contract offers from leading international law firms, I am confident that my choice of degree played a significant part in this."
