PhD Title: Moga as the Epitome of Interwar Japanese Femininity: A Comparative Study of Magazines and Novels in Japan and Britain
Supervisor: Dr Francesca Berry (University of Birmingham), and Dr Yunah Lee (University of Brighton)
PhD History of Art

My research explores how moga (modern women in Japan) forged new identities that bridged the present and past, and East and West, through the transnational study of print culture in Japan and Britain. I aim to explore the role women’s magazines and popular novels played in disseminating modern gender ideals and moulding everyday lived experience.
