Barber Lunchtime Concert

We welcome talented students from The Purcell School for Young Musicians with a concert featuring two captivating trios featuring the piano. The performance begins with Mendelssohn’s Piano Trio in D minor for violin, cello and piano, written in 1839, and described by Schumann as ‘the master trio of our age’. The concert continues with Brahms’ Clarinet Trio in A minor – penned a year after the composer had declared his second string quartet his final work. The trio’s themes cascade between the clarinet and cello, the piano interweaving its melodies. ‘It is as though the instruments were in love with each other’ stated music scholar Mandyczewski.
