Speaker: Kieran Kalair (University of Warwick).

I will discuss various industrial facing problems I have worked on, covering practical applications of mathematics and data science on problems in transportation and energy. I will highlight how these problems have prompted new methodological developments and refinements of existing approaches. Broadly, I will discuss applications of anomaly detection, spatial and temporal modelling through point processes, explainable machine learning and AI, and forecasting to meet risk appetites. Throughout, I will highlight how different data sources enable different modelling approaches, and the practical relevance of results. This talk will give an insight into how industrial problems can give rise to original mathematical and data science research, and how this can then in turn be used to improve our roads, our energy network and beyond.
