Materials Science and Engineering at Birmingham combines teaching from lecturers who are global experts in their field, with leading edge teaching facilities and laboratories to enhance the learning experience for our students. The department has strong partnerships with key employers who provide projects and work placements for our students and regularly recruit our graduates.

These courses are similar in Year 1 and Year 2 and can offer the flexibility to change courses during the first two years. Similarly, you do not have to decide now whether you wish to do a 3-year or 4-year course, as you will be able to switch between our 3-year and 4-year programmes at the end of Year 2. In order to qualify for a 4-year programme, you must obtain a weighted average of 55% at the end of Year 2.

Other transfers between the courses offered by the School may be possible, but these are exceptional and occur at the discretion of the School's Head of Education. If you have any questions, do not hesitate to contact the admissions team.
