Since September 2018 we have been offering "theme days" to home educated students of ages equivalent to secondary school (11-16 years old) and their families. Our aim is to make them aware of the current physics research at the University of Birmingham and enrich their education with experimental work.
Please note that all in person events will resume when the current COVID-19 situation allows. If you have any questions please contact our Outreach Team.
Our typical theme day runs from 10:30 to 15:30 following a standard plan:
10:30-11:00 arrival and health & safety procedures
11:00-12:00 two parallel sessions (one for the home educated students and one for their families and younger siblings) with interactive talks on the theme of the day e.g. particle physics, astrophysics, nuclear physics
12:00-13:00 lunch break and a chance to visit the University campus
13:00-15:00 two parallel sessions (one for the home educated students and one for their families and younger siblings) with experiments and hands-on activities
15:00-15:30 feedback/evaluation of the day
