Catharine is undertaking doctoral research into the development of an intervention to assist people struggling to adapt to the diagnosis of Coeliac Disease and the maintenance of a therapeutic gluten-free diet. As part of this intervention, she is also developing a psychological screening instrument which will be used to tailor intervention work to the needs of individuals.

Biography

Catharine completed her Psychology degree with the Open University and became interested in Health Psychology whilst working as an Assistant Clinical Psychologist at the Cancer Centre, Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham, where she worked for over two years. She then completed an MSc in Health Psychology at Coventry University and has worked since 2009 as an Independent Researcher providing research services to voluntary and statutory organisations.

She is particularly interested in the impact of chronic health conditions on psychological wellbeing, and on how psychological intervention can facilitate adaptation and promote quality of life.  She is also interested in the relationship between health care professionals and service users.
